Our next Reproductive Justice Book group meeting is just around the corner. Here is a quick preview of what to expect. Please arrive a few minutes early. There will be water and light snacks available. The meeting will start promptly at 3:30 with a short video.
Warm-up Video
Our conversations will be centered around the first two chapters of the book, A Reproductive Justice History and Reproductive Justice in the 21st Century. Don’t worry if you have not finished reading. We will watch this 8-minute video by Vox describing how the US medical system is still haunted by slavery. It broadly covers several of the topics in the book, so everyone will be able to join in the conversation.
Small Group Discussion
We will break up into small groups so we can get to know each other better. The Reading Guide for chapters 1 and 2 can be used for discussion prompts, but we don’t need to stick to the questions. This is an opportunity to talk about whatever caught your attention or brought new insights to your understanding of reproductive justice.
We will have two twenty-minute small group discussion sessions. One volunteer from each group will write down the main points the group discusses and share one or two key messages or reactions with the large group.
Preview of Black Maternal Health Week
Black Maternal Health Week is coming up soon. It takes place during Minority Health Month in April. During the week of April 11th – 17th, there is a special focus on Black Maternal Health. This week begins with a special recognition and appreciation of the work of Black Doulas on April 11th. We will share our plans to celebrate Black Doula Day locally and other opportunities to promote or participate in Black Maternal Health Week activities.
